Ellie and I came to Bollywood films in different ways, but we have the same end goal. We started this blog in order to share Indian cinema with Western culture, specifically Americans like ourselves with no previous connection to India.
We certainly don't intend to hold Bollywood to some Hollywood standard. It's a similar art form in a different culture and we want to appreciate the nuance, tropes, and fun without imposing Western ideals on to it. At the same time, the glaring differences between Eastern and Western cinema can help us to laugh at the excesses of both.
Film is just the most recent art form that allows us to celebrate the human spirit across continents and cultures. Learning to love other cultures and appreciate their ideals helps us understand people around the globe.
